Book: The Us
Joan Houlihan is the author of three books, most recently The Us. Her second book, The Mending Worm, was winner of the 2005 New Issues Press Green Rose Award. In 2003 Hand-Held Executions: Poems & Essays was published by Del Sol Press. She is staff reviewer for the Contemporary Poetry Review as well as author of a series of essays on contemporary poetry called Boston Comment, archived online at bostoncomment.com.
Her work has appeared in many journals and magazines, including Boston Review, Gulf Coast, Poetry, Harvard Review and Gettysburg Review and has been anthologized in The Iowa Anthology of New American Poetries and The Book of Irish-American Poetry: Eighteenth Century to the Present.
Houlihan founded and directs the Concord Poetry Center and the Colrain Poetry Manuscript Conference. She is on the faculty of Lesley University’s MFA Low Residency Program in Cambridge and teaches in the Graduate Writing Porgram at Columbia University.
