Jacqueline Davies has been writing children’s books — both children’s novels and children’s picture books — for more than a decade. She has taught classes on children’s book writing, children’s book publishing, and literature for children. Her new historical fiction picture book, Tricking the Tallyman, offers a side-splitting look at the taking of the first U.S. Census in 1790. Her latest historical novel for young adults, Lost, features sixteen-year-old Essie, who has lost something she loves and struggles to come to terms with her grief.

She will present a forty-five minute slide show, during which she introduces each of her books and gives the story behind the story of how each book came to be. She talks about strategies for becoming a better writer and encourages young people to think of themselves as the writers of tomorrow.  Her presentation will be followed by a question-and-answer period in which audience members ask their own questions about writing and books.
